Which learning community is for me?
Determining
which learning community is best for you depends on several things,
including your class year, your interests, and your academic
program. Faculty involvement with your education is a key
ingredient in all of SU’s learning communities. Depending on
the community you choose, you may have a faculty member on your floor
helping you with a research paper or participating in a discussion,
take courses taught in your residence hall classroom, discuss ideas
across classes with other students, or go on a fun and challenging
leadership development retreat with other students and faculty. Through
these activities, and others like them, you will enhance your learning
and form lifelong friendships with students from many diverse
backgrounds who share similar interests and goals.
Here
are a few quick steps to discover more about specific learning
communities and help you narrow down the options.
- Find out more about the mission
and goals of the Syracuse University learning community
program.
- Learn the lingo: residential
LCs, non-residential LCs, interest housing.
- Take the learning
community quiz (adapted from Indiana University's Connect
with Learning Communities at IU, Spring 2004).
- Review the different
learning community choices to learn more about your options
and the specific requirements (you can also search for a specific
learning community). Note:
All locations are subject to change!
- Call or email us
with questions. You may also want to speak with an academic
advisor.
- Thinking about a roommate
request? Talk to your roommate about a residential learning
community/interest housing option.

That’s
all there is to it!
